Help with network diagram? Hi. I'm not sure if i've done my network diagram right because I wasn't sure if i added Peter, Lisa and Julia to it properly. Network Diagram Urgent Please Help!!!? I'm trying to finalise a network diagram in an assignment. I need 2 subnets, with around 50 computers on each subnet. There will be a DHCP server on each subnet, as well as a file server. One of the subnets will need access to an internal website, should this have a web server within this subnet? I was also going to include a mail server on this subnet. I have so far done it as [Internet Cloud] -> [Router] -> [Hub] -> [Workstations, File Server, DHCP Server] (These last 3 all join directly to the Hub. Is this right??? Or should it be [Internet Cloud] -> [Router] -> [DHCP Server] -> [Workstations, File Server]??? How would the IP addressing work??? I have worked out 2 subnets, as well as he address ranges for the DHCP server to allocate to the workstations. How should I set the addresses for the router, hub and servers?

Re-Patching the Network? Good day to you all, I am here today to pick on your brains because I am out of ideas and having a few hundred more people look into this other than me is always a good thing. I only want answers from users that have a network background. Basically our patch panels are a mess and we need to re-patch everything? It'll cost us 10,000 pounds for a company to re-patch two cabinets, color coded...etc Due to the contingency we as a company cannot afford it! Can anyone request. Information we don't have includes; where all the voice and network ports located around the building are located on the patch panel. Our database is out of date and therefore we need to start from scratch. 1. What is the best way to find out which port number relates to which patch in the cabinet. Is there a cheap product or device on the market that allows us to do this. We have the basic Cat 5 cables and no fibre optic. 2. Do you know of any good Network Diagram software that allows us to create a visual database of where are ports are located on the patch panel eventually when we find out. Basically anything that can help us define our network diagram over a large network as original documentation was lost in translation. Cheers AR

How do I install CAT6 to be used in home for Network and Phone? I understand that CAT6 is becoming the new standard for wiring your home’s phone and internet system. I want to install a phone jack w/an Ethernet jack next to it in 4 different locations. I have done a little research but I have some questions. 4 wires come into the house from the telephone company. Could I take these 4 wires that come in from the phone company and run them into 1 – RJ11 jack? I will then take this jack and plug a DSL filter on it and use some sort of splitter to take this one line and split it into 5 lines. 4 lines would go to one of each of the 4 phone locations while the last line would run into my DSL modem. Take the output of the DSL modem and run into a router/hub then run Cat6 cables to each of these 4 locations. Do I still need to place DSL filters at every phone location or does placing the DSL filter before the split prevent this? Should I instead start this project over and run the 4 wires that come into the home into some wiring block? Run the CAT6 from this block and install 2 phone jacks in every location (4 wires to each RJ11)? Is there a diagram on the net that will show you how to do all of this?
